The main PDM is located under the hood on the driver's side above the fender. See Fig. 8.1 . The main PDM distributes battery power to the vehicle's control modules, and contains the fuses required to protect the power feed circuits to these modules.

A fuse box is an electrical panel containing fuses and circuit breakers to distribute electricity through your home. There are many different types of boxes available on the market, depending on your needs. We'll discuss what each type does and why they're essential to have installed correctly in your home.

Open the fuse box door. Inspect each fuse using a flashlight to find the one that is burned or melted (the working fuses will have a clear glass casing but the blown one will look cloudy or blackened).

An ECM, or Electronic Control Module, is an automotive computer module, and a direct application of battery or alternator power to the ECM module may damage the module, so the power circuit is “fused”, has a fuse in the power line.

Most vehicles are equipped with two fuse boxes.

The filament must be continuous from one terminal to the other for current to flow. If the filament is broken through, there's melting visible, or there are black or brown burn marks inside or on the outer portion of the fuse, it's an indication the fuse is blown. Use a circuit tester/test light or DVOM.

The fuse panel is behind the glove box on the passenger side of the vehicle. Open up the glove compartment and remove the screws that keep it in place.

The first thing to do is find your main fuse box (these days called a consumer unit), which will be in the same place as your electricity meter. They're often in the main hallway of a house, in a purpose-built cupboard.
