TSSAA boys basketball tournament 2022: East Robertson wins its first state title in 33 years (2024)

East Robertson wins its first state championship in 33 years

East Robertson defeatedPeabody 67-42to winits first TSSAA boys basketball state title since 1989.

East Robertson had a 14-point lead at halftime that ballooned to as high as 29at the 2:49 markinthe fourth quarter.

Taylor Groves scored a game-high 24points on 10of 20shooting from the field. Groves' cousin Elijah Groves had 18.

DerekKee paced Peabody in scoring with 13points ,and his brother Demarkusadded 12.

East Robertson leads Peabody by 14at the half

East Robertson (26-6)leads Peabody 27-13at halftime of the Class 1A championship. East Robertson held the Golden Tide (25-9) to 6of 24from the field and 0 of 8 from beyond the arc.

Taylor Groves leads all scorers with 15points on 6of 13shooting from the field.

East Robertson has also limited Jason Hunt to two points on 1 of 8 shooting. Hunt is averaging 29 points per game.

Malik Ganaway has a team-high five points for Peabody.

Dobyns-Bennett wins first boys basketball title since 1945

Dobyns-Bennett surprised the field this week, winning its first TSSAA boys basketball state championship in 77 years.

D-B defeated Knoxville Bearden 69-60 in overtime Saturday in the Class 4A state championship game for the program's first title since 1945.

Jack Browder scored a game-high 30 points in the championship game. Teammate Malachi Hale added 16. Hayden Moseley, who sent the game into overtime with a 3-pointer, finished with 25 points. Mr. Basketball finalist Elijah Bredwood added 13 before fouling out.

Dobyns-Bennett surprise leader at halftime

Dobyns-Bennett, perhaps the biggest surprise in the TSSAA boys basketball state championship games, leads Bearden 29-20 at halftime of the Class 4A championship.

Jack Browder is 5-of-7 shooting for 12 points. Malachi Hale has five points.

Hayden Moseley leads Bearden with eight points and has four rebounds. He also has two dunks. Walker Kyle has five. D-B has held Mr. Basketball finalist Elijah Bredwood to just two points on 1-of-4 shooting.

Breaking down TSSAA state tournament paid attendance

Entering the final day of high school basketball, here is a look at the paid attendance for the TSSAA Division I boys and girls state tournaments.

The boys tournament had a paid attendance of 21,176 entering the championships. The girls had 21,176 for entire tournament.

Breaking down the tournament by day:

Tuesday (Class 2A quarterfinals and two 3A quarterfinals): 4,630

Wednesday (Two Class 3A quarterfinals and 4A quarterfinals): 6,879

Thursday (Class 1A quarterfinals, Class 2A semifinals): 3,982

Friday (Class 3A, 4A, 1A semifinals): 5,606

March 8 (Class 2A quarterfinals and two 3A quarterfinals): 3,606

March 9 (Two Class 3A quarterfinals and 4A quarterfinals): 4,419

Greeneville wins second straight state title 77-48 over Jackson South Side

The final result was deja vu, but the game couldn't have been more different.

Greeneville routed Jackson South Side to win the 3A state title 77-48. It was a rematch of last year's 2A championship, in which the Greene Devils beat the Hawks by a single point. With 3:30 remaining in the fourth quarter, Greeneville was comfortable enough to pull all of its starters.

Mr. Basketball winner Ja'Kobi Gillespie dropped 25 points, shooting 10-20 from the field and 3-8 from beyond the arc. He also logged six rebounds, seven assists and two steals. Reid Satterfield added 21 points.

Greeneville set a new state tournament record for most three-pointers made with 35, breaking the previous record of 34. With 14 three-pointers in the game, they were two away from breaking the single-game championship record of 16.

Greeneville dominatesfrom three in first quarter vs. South Side

In a rematch of last year's state championship game, Greeneville wasted no time building up a 43-30lead over Jackson South Side, largely thanks to their three-point shooting.

In the first half, theteam shot 53%from beyond the arc, and junior Adjatay Dabbs was 2-2. Senior Reid Satterfield went 3-6and Ja'Kobi Gillespie was 2-4. South Side is 1-4from three and 10-24from the field to Greeneville's 16-26.

Gillespie leads Greeneville's scoring with 18points, but Satterfield is having a much better showing than he did against Stone Memorial in the semifinal, already with nine points. South Side is led by Rico Sain with 11.

East Nashville wins first Class 2A boys state championship

East Nashville held off one last Milan charge to win the school's first boys basketball state championship 72-55 Saturday at Middle Tennessee State's Murphy Center.

Tournament MVP Jaylen Jones scored 20 points with seven assists and five rebounds in the championship game. Mr. Basketball finalist Jarrod Taylor add16 with five rebounds and had four assists.

Jodarius Robinson had 20 points and six assists to pace Milan.

East Nashville dominates first half vs. Milan

East Nashville has dominated Milan in the first half, leading 39-25 in the TSSAA Class 2A championship game.The Eagles, who are seeking their first TSSAA state championship, has forced nine turnovers and outscored the Bulldogs 17-1 off of that.

Willie Wilson has come off the bench to hit 3-of-3 3-pointers and has nine points. Jaylen Jones and Michael Armstrong each have eight points with Jones having a couple one-handed jams.

Jodarius Robinson has nine points to pace Milan.
